Welcome to Byland Class (Year 1 and 2)

Teacher: Mrs Carole Taylor

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Liz Campbell

What has been happening in our class?

· We have been learning about significant women with our focus being Queen Elizabeth II. We researched her family tree and key events during her reign. As an art focus, we participated in an on line drawing activity to draw her portrait. This produced some fabulous pieces of work.

· We had great fun learning about the Railways and used our Design and Technology skills to create models of The High Force Bridge and Stephenson’s locomotion. We are very proud of the results and think they look amazing! Our topic was completed with a visit from two people who work on the railways today. It was fascinating to learn about the modern railway and how things had progressed over time.

· Outdoor learning is very important to us and we like to be outdoors as much as possible. By participating in weekly Forest school activities we have completed many challenges this term including making bird feeders, bird boxes, building dens and bridges capable of holding significant weights.

· We’re having great fun in Maths with our measure topic. It has been challenging learning about all the different language used to measure (time, length, weight, capacity etc) but it has been brilliant doing all the practical activities and we have been able to link this to our Science work too.
