Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School

British Values Statement

At Sacred Heart, children have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our School Council and pupil questionnaires. The elections of our School Council Representatives are based solely on pupil voice. Classes may also organise opportunities for the children to extend their right to vote for various reasons. We have a pupil leadership team which consists of Head boy and Head Girl, pupil chaplaincy team and house captains.

The Rule of Law

The importance of laws and rules, whether they are in the class, school or country are consistently reinforced through: our Mission Statement, the school day, daily collective worship, daily prayer and our school behaviour policy. The children understand their rights and their responsibilities. The pupils learn that all actions have consequences. They take on roles such as School Council representatives, head boy, head girl, house captains, librarians, play leaders and e-safety ambassadors. We always welcome visits, including from the Police, Fire Service, Railways, Lifeguards and Childline.

Individual Liberty

In school, children are actively encouraged to make choices in a safe and supportive environment. We also teach the children how to exercise these choices safely through our weekly ‘Statements to Live by’, through e-safety and through daily prayer, assemblies and RE lessons.

Mutual Respect

Part of our Catholic Ethos is to show respect to others in the way that we behave. We emphasise this through our Mission Statement, our weekly ‘Statements to live by’, our daily collective worship, daily prayer and our RE lessons.

Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs

As a Catholic School, we actively promote a tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. We visit other faith schools and learn about a different faith every term in RE lessons.
