Music curriculum
At Sacred Heart, we believe that music education goes beyond a set of skills, knowledge and understanding that we explain to someone else in the sense that, when acting musically, we embody learning. Musical learning needs to be universally viewed as being accessible and open to everyone, promoted through positive experiences, appropriately challenging and engaging experiences.
At Sacred Heart, we have a specialist music teacher (Mr Joolz Form) who delivers weekly sessions, working with all pupils across an academic year.
We value the subject-specific skills, knowledge and vocabulary of Music. Therefore, we have also created a progressive set of skills that children will develop while at Sacred Heart. These fall under six different strands and are listed below:
- Singing songs with control and using the voice expressively
- Controlling pulse and rhythm
- Listening, memory and movement
- Control of instruments
- Composition and Performance
- Exploring sounds, melody and accompaniment
