Geography
At Sacred Heart, we believe that the teaching of geography inspires a curiosity and fascination with the world, with diverse groups of people and how these interact with one another. Geography helps pupils to know their place in, and how to impact, the world.
At Sacred Heart, Geography is primarily delivered as a discrete subject with opportunities in other subjects for knowledge and skills to be applied.
Geography is often the driver subject and predominant focus of each class’ learning. Although, the teaching of geography, geographical processes and changes permeate through a wide range of work across the curriculum.
We enhance our teaching of geography through a range of educational experiences: such as trips to local points of interest; having experts visit classes and extracurricular activities.
We value the subject-specific skills, knowledge and vocabulary of Geography. Pupils will learn a variety of subject specific skills such as:
- Map reading
- Direction and Scale
- Geographical Enquiry
